Lam Research Posts Record $8.22B Revenue, Texas Instruments Beats Too — Samsung and SK hynix Rebound: 8 Reads for October 22

The verdict first. On October 21, 2026, the first test of chip earnings season was valuation, not demand. Lam Research printed record revenue of $8.22 billion yet fell 6.82% after hours, while Texas Instruments beat on revenue and profit and guided the next quarter above consensus. Super Micro raised its quarterly revenue outlook by $4 billion, evidence that AI server demand has not cooled. In Korea, Samsung Electronics rose 5.57% and SK hynix 5.81%, reversing the prior day's slide, and semiconductor exports for October 1–20 hit a record $27.5 billion for the period. Nvidia said Vera Rubin is in full production. Here are 8 reads for today.

8 Reads for Today

1. Lam Research: Record $8.22B Revenue — and a 6.82% After-Hours Drop

TradingView / Quartr (Lam Research 8-K), 2026-10-21 · AskTraders, 2026-10-21

  • Lam Research reported September-quarter revenue up 22% quarter over quarter to $8.22 billion, with GAAP diluted EPS of $2.19 and non-GAAP EPS of $2.20, on October 21. Revenue was about 1% above consensus and up roughly 54% year over year.
  • December-quarter guidance calls for revenue of $8.60 billion plus or minus $400 million, gross margin of 52.5% and operating margin of 40.5%, each plus or minus one percentage point. The revenue midpoint sits only slightly above the $8.533 billion consensus.
  • CEO Tim Archer said AI is driving higher semiconductor demand and greater device complexity, and credited operational execution for record revenue, profit and EPS.
  • The stock closed down 1.00% at $260.81 and fell 6.82% after hours to $243.01. Ahead of the print, Evercore ISI cut its target to $315 from $355 on late-cycle valuation pressure, while Deutsche Bank had raised its target to $375.

Chase's take: The numbers were strong and the reaction was cold. The market voted on the guidance midpoint, not the quarter. The next test for equipment names is not orders but margins and 2027 WFE commentary. With Texas Instruments and Super Micro confirming demand the same day, it is too early to read this drop as a demand slowdown.

2. Nvidia Vera Rubin in Full Production — DSX POD Cuts AI Factory Deployment From Six Months to 14 Days

Morningstar / GlobeNewswire (NVIDIA), 2026-10-21 · Money Today, 2026-10-21

  • CEO Jensen Huang said at GTC Berlin on October 21 that the Vera Rubin platform is in full production. A Vera Rubin node has no cables or wires, is 100% liquid-cooled, and assembles in under five minutes, versus two hours for a Grace Blackwell node.
  • DSX POD is a reference design for complete Vera Rubin AI factories built by partners inside modular containers, integrated and validated before delivery. At a prepared site, deployment falls from about six months to as little as 14 days. Partners include Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, Schneider Electric and Vertiv, with deliveries from early 2027.
  • Nvidia says DSX designs can cut cooling water use by up to 100% with closed-loop liquid cooling, and its DSX MaxLPS software can produce the same AI output with up to 30% less power.
  • Google Cloud will make Vera Rubin-based A5X instances generally available in November.

Chase's take: The direct beneficiary of Vera Rubin volume is HBM4. Every additional rack pulls Samsung and SK hynix HBM4 with it. DSX POD matters because the bottleneck has moved from chips to construction sites: compressing deployment to 14 days pulls revenue recognition forward.

3. Super Micro Lifts Revenue Guide to $18.5B–$19.5B — Stock Up 9.55%

Channel NewsAsia / Reuters, 2026-10-21 · Motley Fool, 2026-10-21

  • Super Micro Computer guided fiscal first-quarter revenue, for the quarter ended September 30, to $18.5 billion–$19.5 billion, well above prior guidance of $14.5 billion–$15.5 billion and the $15.23 billion LSEG consensus.
  • Gross margin guidance rose to 12.0%–12.5% from 10.4%–10.8%, on a more favorable customer and product mix, with AI platform demand cited as the driver.
  • The stock closed up 9.55% at $35.57 on October 21. Dell gained 5.1% and Hewlett Packard Enterprise 3.2% as buying spread across server makers.
  • Full results are due November 3. Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta are expected to spend more than $700 billion on AI infrastructure this year.

Chase's take: For two weeks the market's question was whether debt-funded AI buildouts are actually converting into product sales. A $4 billion guidance raise is the most direct answer available. Customer concentration and cash flow still need checking when the full results land on November 3.

4. Texas Instruments Beats With $6.06B Revenue — Q4 Guide Also Above Consensus

Reuters via KTWB, 2026-10-21

  • Third-quarter revenue rose 28% year over year to $6.06 billion, above the $5.92 billion consensus, and EPS rose 77% to $2.62 versus $2.43 expected.
  • Fourth-quarter guidance is revenue of $5.80 billion–$6.30 billion and EPS of $2.45–$2.79, with the revenue range above the $5.73 billion consensus. The company cited recovering industrial demand and momentum in AI data-center chips.
  • The quarterly dividend was raised to $1.52 from $1.42, payable November 10. Trailing-twelve-month operating cash flow was $9.9 billion.
  • The stock closed up 2.47% at $284.65 and added 0.31% after hours to $285.52.

Chase's take: Texas Instruments is the thermometer of the chip cycle. A broad analog recovery plus growing data-center exposure is the cleanest demand signal of this earnings round, with none of Lam's guidance ambiguity. Industrial recovery is also a friendly signal for Korean analog and power chip suppliers.

5. Samsung Up 5.57%, SK hynix Up 5.81% — KOSPI Rebound Triggers a Buy-Side Sidecar

Money Today, 2026-10-21 · NoCut News, 2026-10-21

  • On October 21, Samsung Electronics closed up 12,000 won (5.57%) at 223,500 won and SK hynix closed up 71,000 won (5.81%) at 1,294,000 won, one day after the KOSPI fell 3.73% to 5,552.74.
  • Intraday, the KOSPI rose as much as 4.1% to 5,780.67, and the Korea Exchange triggered a buy-side sidecar at 10:51 a.m., the first in two months.
  • Drivers cited include bargain hunting after the slide, Super Micro's raised outlook, lower oil prices and steadier long-term rates on U.S.–Iran negotiation hopes, plus record chip exports for October 1–20.
  • Both stocks remain below their October 8 highs near 260,000 won and 1,680,000 won. Brokers held targets: Nomura kept Samsung at 670,000 won and SK hynix at 4,700,000 won, seeing the memory bottleneck lasting into 2028; Mirae Asset kept 400,000 won and 3,100,000 won.

Chase's take: The rebound is real but a trend call would be premature. Foreign investors had sold SK hynix for 18 straight sessions into this week. The real test is memory pricing and long-term supply commentary at SK hynix earnings on October 28 and Samsung on October 29.

6. Chip Exports Hit $27.5B in October 1–20, Up 222.5% — a Record for the Period

Aju Press, 2026-10-21 · ChosunBiz, 2026-10-21

  • Preliminary Korea Customs Service data put total exports for October 1–20 at $61.6 billion, up 105.4% year over year and a record for the period. Working-day-adjusted daily exports rose 65.9% to a record $4.74 billion.
  • Semiconductor exports surged 222.5% to $27.5 billion, a record for the period, and made up 44.7% of total exports, up 16.2 percentage points from a year earlier.
  • Computer peripherals rose 424.0%, petroleum products 68.3% and passenger cars 40.9%. By destination, China rose 154.4%, the United States 154.9%, the EU 78.2% and Vietnam 74.6%.
  • Imports rose 42.8% to $47.1 billion, leaving a $14.5 billion trade surplus.

Chase's take: Export data confirms rather than predicts. Chips at 44.7% of national exports means the macro data now rises and falls with the AI cycle. For now the numbers point one way: in a price-led upcycle, export value growth converts directly into earnings growth.

7. Samsung Has Roughly 80% of 2027 Memory Output Under Contract, KB Estimates — HBM Prices Seen Up 100–150%

Maeil Business (KB Securities), 2026-10-20 · Korea Herald, 2026-10-07

  • KB Securities estimates Samsung signed five-year long-term supply agreements covering 70% of its conventional DRAM and NAND output for 2027, and that 100% of annual HBM output is contracted — roughly 80% of total 2027 memory production.
  • KB expects HBM average selling prices to rise 100–150% in 2027 on HBM4, with HBM4 reaching 80% of HBM revenue versus 40% in 2026, and first-quarter DRAM prices rising by double digits quarter over quarter.
  • On that basis, KB estimates Samsung operating profit of 367 trillion won in 2026 and 555 trillion won in 2027.
  • Reported asking prices for 2027 HBM4 are in the mid-to-high $4 range per Gb, more than triple the roughly $1.50 per Gb of current HBM3E. These are reported asking prices, not disclosed final contract prices.

Chase's take: The point of long-term agreements is who sets the price. With 80% of output pre-sold, hyperscalers compete for the remaining 20%. Memory makers holding pricing power at this scale is the closest setup to the 2017 supercycle. The next earnings call needs to confirm price direction, not just contract existence.

8. Two Answers to the HBM Shortage — Nvidia Standardizes on TSMC 3nm, Intel Detours to LPDDR5X

Maeil Shinmun, 2026-10-21 · Reuters, 2026-10-18

  • Nvidia asked Samsung, SK hynix and Micron to build NVHBM base dies on TSMC's 3nm process and core dies on sixth-generation 1c DRAM, and Samsung accepted after an internal review. NVHBM offers up to 30% more bandwidth and 15% lower power than standard HBM4E.
  • Industry estimates put TSMC 3nm yield above 90% versus roughly 60% for Samsung Foundry's competing 2nm process. One base-die process across suppliers also cuts performance variance and validation burden.
  • Intel's new AI inference GPU D series uses large volumes of LPDDR5X instead of HBM, with partner cards supporting up to 480GB. Some GPU and ASIC vendors are also weighing 8-high HBM stacks instead of 12-high to cut DRAM usage.
  • KB Securities still expects HBM pricing to lead DRAM prices higher from the first quarter of next year.

Chase's take: A customer dictating the manufacturing process tells you how tight memory supply is. Samsung gives up one base-die process and keeps its seat inside Nvidia's custom HBM chain. Intel's LPDDR5X detour targets the lower tier of inference, a different battlefield from HBM-based training. The shortage-to-price structure stays intact for now.
