Executive Summary

01 Kioxia’s SSD shares the chips, but not the results

TL;DR Tom’s Hardware’s September 12 test of the Exceria Pro G2 2TB found good reads but weaker writes and copies than leading peers in its 50GB file-transfer workload. Sharing an SM2508 controller and BiCS8 TLC with the WD Black SN8100 did not produce identical results: controller names and peak bandwidth leave much of the SSD story out. The review measured a 52°C peak during sustained writes, under its cooling setup at roughly 22°C ambient.

02 Ellison cancels his Oracle share-sale plan

TL;DR Oracle said on September 12 that Larry Ellison cancelled his prearranged 10b5-1 share-sale plan and sold no shares under it. The company said he had no other sale plans at the time, but gave no reason for the cancellation. For investors following Oracle’s AI infrastructure spending, insider supply is worth tracking; this reversal does not establish a new investment or additional orders.

03 EROFS pauses a memory-saving optimization

TL;DR A September 12 Linux mainline merge temporarily disables EROFS’s LZ4 rolling-decompression optimization. AWS found incorrect output with rare data patterns: backward memory copies on x86 broke the assumptions behind reusing temporary pages. Preserving correctness can require more temporary memory, so container and embedded-system operators should check memory headroom when adopting the change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What did the Exceria Pro G2 2TB SSD test find?

Tom's Hardware's September 12 test found good reads but weaker writes and copies than leading peers in its 50GB file-transfer workload. The drive measured a 52°C peak during sustained writes, under cooling at roughly 22°C ambient.

Why did sharing a controller not give the Exceria the same results as a peer?

Sharing an SM2508 controller and BiCS8 TLC with the WD Black SN8100 did not produce identical results. Controller names and peak bandwidth leave much of the SSD story out, including firmware and sustained-write behavior.

What did Oracle say about Larry Ellison's share-sale plan?

Oracle said on September 12 that Larry Ellison cancelled his prearranged 10b5-1 share-sale plan and sold no shares under it. The company gave no reason for the cancellation and said he had no other sale plans at the time.

Why was EROFS's LZ4 optimization temporarily disabled?

A September 12 Linux mainline merge temporarily disables EROFS's LZ4 rolling-decompression optimization after AWS found incorrect output with rare data patterns. Preserving correctness can require more temporary memory, so operators should check memory headroom.
