A practicing semiconductor engineer's daily read on global silicon news:
Texas Instruments' analog rebound points to broad chip-demand recovery, while AMD and Alphabet show that AI capacity now hinges on rack-scale qualification rather than GPU supply alone.
Chase's Take - I read Texas Instruments' quarter as a gauge of broad semiconductor demand recovery, not another AI accelerator signal. Analog revenue rose 26% and inventory fell about 4.3% YoY, but $3.3B in trailing-12-month CAPEX does not guarantee higher utilization; new 300mm capacity turns into revenue only after long automotive and industrial qualifications.
From an STA and backend perspective, demand has split: leading-edge AI chips are gated by HBM, substrates, networking, and rack burn-in, while general electronics are gated after tapeout by analog companion chips and embedded BOM approvals. AMD's 2GW deal turns the first 1GW in 1H27 into a schedule for rack power, cooling, ROCm, and interconnect validation.
Next quarter I will track TI's guide attainment and inventory turns alongside HBM and substrate allocations for AMD Helios.
